SPEAKER PROFILES
Darrell Busby
Iowa State University Extension Beef Specialist for SW Iowa, serving beef producers, veterinarians and allied industry staff in 12 counties from the Armstrong Research Farm located near Lewis, Iowa. In 1982, Darrell assisted cow-calf producers in developing Tri-County Steer Carcass Futurity cooperative to collect and evaluate both genetic and management decisions of steers, heifers, bulls and cull cows that impact profitability. In the last 8 years, 50,270 head of steers and heifers from 16 states and MB have been evaluated by cow-calf producers in a retained ownership position. In the last 6 years, we have collected and compared 908 sires representing 17 breeds and over 31,750 progeny for profit.
Darrell received his BS and MS in Animal Science from Kansas State University in 1971 and 1980 respectively.
Rodger Sheldon
Herdsman on dairy farms in Canada and New Zealand. Business representative for automated livestock feeding equipment company, Business representative for agriculture pesticide company, Agricultural lending representative, Manager of the Farm Management section of MAFRI and manager of extension programming for NW Region MAFRI, 25 years as agricultural representative in Ste. Rose with MAFRI . Currently work as Farm Production Extension – Pasture and Grassland specialist with MAFRI coordinating numerous on farm extended grazing demonstration trials including spring and late fall stockpiled forages, spring and fall grazing of winter cereals, winter corn grazing, winter swath grazing of cereals and winter bale grazing.
Dr. Wayne Tomlinson
Dr. Wayne Tomlinson received his B.Sc in Animal Science from the University of Manitoba in 1981. He later graduated with a degree in veterinary medicine in 1985 from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (Saskatoon).
Prior to joining MAFRI he spent 22 years in a mixed animal practice in southwestern Manitoba (Glenboro). Wayne has been employed as an extension veterinarian with MAFRI since 2007.
Wayne still lives in the Glenboro area where he operates a small cattle farm. When not in the rink watching one of his two sons play hockey, Wayne can be found working on the farm.
