2006 Beef and Forage Week, January 23-27

Project Description: Seminars were held during the month of January in Holland, Eriksdale, Ste. Rose du Lac, Vita/Rosa, Teulon and Southwestern Manitoba. Presenters discussed pre-calving management, wet and dry weather cycles, cattle age verification and radio frequency technology and environmental farm plans.

Project Results: Over 800 people attended this winter’s Beef and Forage Week. Dr. Tim Ball educated us on wet and dry cycles, Dr. Pete Knight discussed pre-calving management, and Tracy Gardner of the Canadian Cattle Identification Agency, spoke about the importance of age verification and radio frequency identification technology. Dale Timmerman addressed the benefits of Environmental Farm Plans, and both the Manitoba Forage Council and the Manitoba Cattle Producers gave updates on their project activities.
